Mr. Nelson and family

It feels great to be part of the wolf pack! I'm thrilled to be joining the administrative team with Mr. Fingers and Mrs. Magana as we embark on the 2019 - 2020 school year. I've heard incredible things about the Cross Timbers' learning community, and as an assistant principal I look forward to establishing a strong, trusting relationship with each of you.
This is will be my fifteenth year in education and my fifth as an Assistant Principal. It is my life's purpose to have a positive impact on the lives of the students I serve. I am so thankful each morning I wake up and have the opportunity to fulfill that purpose. There’s not another school on this planet I’d rather work at than Cross Timbers Middle School.
My wife and I currently have two children, Knox who is 4 and Teddy who is 2. I spend as much time as possible outside of work creating lifelong memories with my family and trying to enjoy each opportunity with them as if it were my last.
In my spare time I am an avid sports fan. Basketball has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As a former player and coach I enjoy watching some of the world’s best athletes compete in the NBA. My favorite sporting event in the whole world is NCAA tournament called March Madness.
Reading is another passion of mine. There are few things in this world that I enjoy more than reading a good book. I read nearly all my books on my iPhone using the Kindle app. Currently, I am deeply engrossed in The Saxon Stories series written by Bernard Cornwell.
Anytime I’m driving by myself I love to listen to podcasts. I’ve laughed, cried, and learned a great deal of information from the podcasts I listen to in the car. Some of my favorite podcasts are Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History, Tim Ferriss’s The Tim Ferris Show, Bill Simmons’s The Bill Simmons Podcast, Shane Parrish's The Knowledge Project, and Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History.
As a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, I am an avid Longhorns fan. Anytime there’s a UT football game or basketball game on TV I try to watch. I also make it a point to visit Austin at least once a year with my wife to enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds the city has to offer. Go Longhorns!
